Last year we teamed up with Leave No Trace and The Nature Conservancy to create a unique course on conservation for outdoor enthusiast and professionals. So far this year we have taught nearly 100 students about local conservation issues and how to reduce their impact. Even cooler, these guides, anti-poaching scouts, drivers and camp staff are spreading the word and even training their own colleagues. We love to hear these stories; training trainers is a core component of what we are all about. Most impressively, Nature Discovery, a mountain and safari company – and LNT Partner – trained over 260 porters in Moshi and 220 in Arusha. There are often complaints about porter habits on the mountain; props to the folks at ND for taking action and passing on knowledge. Incredibly, many porters said this was the first time they had heard about this stuff, and they were excited, enthralled. No eye rolling or thinking it was ridiculous, all positive. Talk about impact. It will be interesting to see if this translates to practices and conditions on Kili.
